Pacifiers can be used for 2 reasons: 1. To calm the horse and prevent it from shying. The wire mesh goggles filter the light, like sunglasses, giving the horse a sense of security. 2. The mesh goggles are dome shaped to prevent sand and dirt flying into the horses eyes – mostly used in racing.
